Winter Solstice on December 21st is the perfect time to light a candle and meditate on the mystery of darkness.
Solstice means sun standing still and the sun does stay motionless for a few days. This is the longest night of the year and the reflective moon shines down. The sun holds us in darkness just as at the Summer Solstice the sun blazes down and holds us in the light. The silvery moon and the sun’s rays show up the shadowy darkness with all its mystery and magic.
Darkness is where the imagination, dreams, and the subconscious hold sway. Entering into the darkness is as much a part of the Winter Solstice as our longing for the light.
